Winter months call for cozy warm drinks. Matcha latte is always on top of my list no matter the season - the only thing that changes is whether I have it hot or iced. This drink made its way into my daily routine satisfying both the caffeine addict and the health fanatic in me - and they are rarely on the same page!
Matcha contains high levels of antioxidants and has countless health benefits such as stimulating metabolism and improving mental clarity and concentration. The hype around matcha powder in the past few years is surely well deserved. Besides, if you are a green tea fan (like me) then that's absolutely a flavor worth trying.
I have tested multiple recipes for matcha lattes over the years and this one has proven to be the easiest and the most well-balanced when it comes to flavor. All the ingredients are my usual pantry staples and it does not require any fancy equipment to prepare.
Ingredients:
1 tsp organic matcha powder (adjust the amount to your liking - depending on how prominent you would like the green tea flavor to be)
1/2 tsp honey (I use Manuka honey for more health benefits)
Hot water
Milk of choice (I find oat milk to be the best fit for this recipe)
2 shots of espresso (optional)
Prep time:
Less than 5 min
Step 1:
Sift a desired amount of matcha powder into a small bowl and add a splash of hot water. Whisk until it appears fully mixed and foamy.
Step 2:
Add a desired amount of honey to your cup and pour matcha on top of it.
Step 3: (optional)
If you need an extra caffeine boost, add a shot or two of espresso.
Step 4:
Steam (if desired) or simply heat up your milk of choice (I use about 3/4 cup of oat milk for this recipe but you you can add more or less). Add it to your cup.
